Bruna Franchetto

Bruna Franchetto is a Professor at the Department of Anthropology and head of the Graduate Program in Social Anthropology of the National Museum, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and a member of the CNPq (Brazilian Scientific National Counsel). Since 2009, she is the coordinator of the Brazilian Program for Documentation of Indigenous Languages-PRODOCLIN. She has been involved in collaborative research with indigenous researchers and with indigenous undergraduate and graduate students. Bruna Franchetto received her doctoral degree in Anthropology from the Program of Graduate studies in Social Anthropology (PPGAS) of the National Museum in 1986. She conducts research on Karib languages spoken in the Upper Xingu area and other Karib languages of northern Amazon. She has also worked on the Wapichana language (Aruak family). Her main areas of interest include syntax, ergativity, ethnography of speaking,ethnosemantics, cognitive anthropology, language policy and indigenous education.
