Robert Munro has worked as the software developer for the Endangered Languages Archive (ELAR) since early 2004. His work has included the design and implementation of the digital archive, teaching & training, multimedia development, and research into computational linguists.

He completed Arts and Science degrees at the University of Sydney in 2003, including majors in Linguistics, Computer Science, English, Information Systems, and Film Studies, all of which have come in handy at some point in his work at HRELP. Rob has travelled extensively, usually on his bicycle, taking in the backroads of Australia, India and South-East Asia where he first spent time with speakers of endangered languages and developed an interest in the field.

His main areas of interest are: language documentation and ICT; formal models of probabilistic linguistics and linguistic gradience; data mining and machine learning as tools in linguistic analysis; and multimedia development for endangered language communities.
