Software Developer
Fixed Term position until 31 July 2014 (Initially)
£32,106 - £37,922 p.a. inclusive of London Allowance
The Endangered Languages Archive (ELAR) preserves and publishes documentation of endangered languages and provides services including client support and training. We are seeking to employ an experienced and creative software developer who will play a central role in further advancement of our digital data curation and publication system.
The successful candidate will join the small ELAR team, and will also participate in activities with other programmes of Hans Rausing Endangered Languages Project (HRELP). The applicant will be an excellent Drupal/LAMP/Javascript developer with significant experience in user-centred web applications, ideally with a degree in computing or a linguistics related discipline and a strong interest in language documentation and/or archiving.
The role’s main duties include extending our existing system to expand its interactive functions and enhance its usability; to develop new applications for facilitating collection management, curation, administration and reporting. The position also involves communicating about the project, and providing some software support to other programmes of Hans Rausing Endangered Languages Project.
The position offers considerable potential for creative input to ELAR’s directions and opportunities to work with documenters and speakers of endangered languages throughout the world.

Digital Content Curator
Initially Fixed Term position until 31 July 2014
£25,795 - £31,233 p.a. inclusive of London Allowance
The Endangered Languages Archive (ELAR) preserves and publishes documentation of endangered languages and provides services including client support and training. ELAR is an innovative digital archive which specialises in making language documentation materials accessible to a variety of users, including language speakers.
We are seeking a highly motivated digital content curator who will undertake a variety of tasks with language documentation collections, from working with current and potential depositors, to processing data, to crafting content for collection presentation pages. Some involvement in training would also be expected. The successful candidate will join the small ELAR team, which works within the context of the Hans Rausing Endangered Languages Project (HRELP).
We are looking for someone with a degree in a relevant area, or equivalent experience, but the most important attribute for this position is a dedication to accuracy and detail. Additional technical skills such as XML or scripting will be welcome. Applicants will ideally be graduates in field linguistics, with experience working in an archive, have excellent communication and teamworking abilities, and a demonstrated analytical approach.
