PhD bursary
ELAP recognises that PhD students face a large financial burden. We have allocated funds for one research student bursary for 2008-09 to support a full-time PhD student. The bursary will include payment of fees (at the UK/EU level) and an annual stipend of £9,750, renewable for a further two years. For students paying the higher (overseas) tuition fee, the remaining tuition fees payable will normally be deducted from the stipend award.
To be eligible to apply for an ELAP Bursary, you will need to have completed a UK Masters degree in Linguistics at merit level or better (or overseas equivalent). Students currently studying for a Masters Degree must be expecting to receive a merit or better. Area of language specialisation is open but preference will be given to a student intending to work on an endangered language of Africa or Asia.
We aim to help students in the greatest financial need, so the bursary is available to someone without other major funding (apart from ORS). Please see the SOAS website for information about alternative PhD funding sources.
Please note that you must have applied for a place at SOAS before you may apply for the bursary.
How to apply: complete the application form. Note that you must ask your referees to supply confidential references by the closing date.
Closing date: 2nd May 2008
