Issues in language documentation

This lecture will overview the field of documentary linguistics and the practices of language documentation, discussing goals, methodologies and outcomes. Several key issues of concern in language documentation will be addressed, including the relationships between documentation and description, the nature of the documentary corpus, criteria for evaluation of language documentation, and issues of objectification and commodification of endangered languages in documentary linguistics.
