Accommodation for participantsParticipant accommodation will be located at Smaragdlaan. The specific location can be viewed here. The Smaragdlaan facility consists of approximately fifty shared apartments, and is a short bus ride or approximately a 30 minute walk from the Lipsius building or the Leiden central train station. Take bus 11 or 12 towards Leiden de Vink from Leiden central train station to the Turkooislaan stop. The Turkooislaan stop is located directly in front of the Smaragdlaan building. Tickets for the bus can be purchased from the driver or at various stores within the train station. Each apartment has a separate kitchen and bath, as well as a terrace with a view over beautiful Leiden. The furnished apartments are approximately 40 sq. meters and are suitable for two people, but do not have separate bedrooms. Apartments will be shared with one other student. For an additional charge, you may rent your own apartment or rent an entire apartment for you and a partner. Please indicate this on the registration form in the designated area. Apartment detailsEach apartment is self-contained with a kitchen and bathroom. The kitchen includes a small refrigerator, electric stove, and basic cookware, dishes, and utensils. Pillows and blankets can be found in the room, and bedsheets will be provided upon check-in. Students must bring their own towels. Towels are not provided. Each room has two single beds, two tables, one coffee table, a bookcase, two wardrobes, two sitting chairs, and two desk chairs as well as a free high-speed internet connection. The internet service is provided by Lijbrandt Telecom. You must provide your own UTP cable. All residents have access to the on-site laundry facility on the first floor which is free of charge. Please provide your own detergent. For the safety and security of residents, the outside door of the building is locked at all times and surveillance cameras are in place throughout the public areas of the building. Within a five minute walk, students will find Diamantplein, a shopping facility with supermarkets, fish, cheese, and meat stores, a pharmacy, as well as many other stores. Smaragdlaan is also a short walk from the Valkenburgse Meer, a recreational area perfect for picnics, walking, and swimming. A cafe and small museum can also be found on site. Check-InCheck-in for Smaragdlaan housing will take place on Sunday, July 4, 2010 on the ground floor of the Lipsius building. A specific check-in time will be provided at a later date.
