VenueThe 2010 summer school will be hosted by Leiden University. The city of Leiden is conveniently located within 15 minutes of Schipol Airport and can be reached easily by train. Visit nshispeed.nl for information on train connections from surrounding countries. Visit the German rail website, bahn.de, to search destinations and timetables not found on the Dutch rail site. The Leiden Visitor's Centre is located directly in front of the Leiden Central Train Station. Tourist information, maps, and other gift items can be obtained at the Visitor's Centre. The majority of summer school courses and events will take place in the Lipsius building, located a convenient 15 minute walk from the Leiden central train station. It is also possible to take bus 32 towards Zoetermeer from Leiden central train station to the Paterstraat stop. The Lipsius building will be just across the canal (Witte Singel). Tickets for the bus can be purchased from the driver or at various stores within the train station. Check-in for the summer school will take place on Monday, July 5, 2010 on the ground floor of the Lipsius building between 8:00 and 9:00 a.m. If you check in for housing on Sunday, July 4, it is not necessary to check-in again on Monday morning. For additional information on participant housing, please refer to the Accommodation page. Lecture locationsSpecific classroom numbers will be posted shortly before the start of the summer school. Directions by carComing via the A4 motorway, take exit 7 and follow the signs to Leiden Centrum. At the end of Lammenschansweg, cross the bridge (Jan van Houtbrug) and turn left onto Jan van Houtkade. At the end of this street go left, cross the bridge and go right. You are now on the Witte Singel. If you come via the A44 motorway, take exit 8. Follow the Plesmanlaan straight to Morssingel in the centre. On all routes to the university buildings you will find signs for parking. The most convenient car parks are located at the Haagweg (€ 4 per day) and the Maliebaan (University car park). You can walk from the Haagweg to the University buildings at the Witte Singel in about 10 minutes. If you need to go to the city centre, a free bus will take you there from the Haagweg parking. |
