UK entry and visa requirements

Requirements for European Economic Area (EEA) nationals and Swiss nationals

Summer School participants who are nationals of the European Economic Area (EEA) or Swiss nationals need a passport or national identity card to enter the UK.

The EEA countries are: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Irish Republic, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom.

When you enter the United Kingdom you should use the separate channel marked 'EEA/EU' where it is available. Immigration officers will check your passport or national identity card to make sure that it is valid and belongs to you.

Requirements for participants needing a visa

Summer School attendees who are not nationals of the European Economic Area or Switzerland will require a valid passport and must obtain entry clearance before travelling to the UK. Individuals who need a visa to visit the UK should apply for a Student Visitor Visa. More information about visas can be found at the following sites.

Check if you need a visa to visit the UK:
http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/en/

Find out about the Student Visitor Visa:
http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/studyingintheuk/student-visitors/

We strongly recommend that you carefully read and follow the visa requirements specified on the UK Borders Agency website. Once your place at the Summer School is confirmed, we will provide a letter to support your visa application. Please note that if your letter of support requires your passport details, you must ensure that you give the details of the passport you intend to use for travel to the UK. Please apply for your visa as early as possible, since it may take a long time for your application to be processed, depending on where you are travelling from.
