language endangerment and language documentation.
Endangered Languages Week

30 April - 8 May 2008. A week of films, displays, discussions
and workshops presenting
what is being done to document, archive and support endangered
languages at HRELP and around the world.
The theme is “What can WE do?”, exploring
how researchers, students, language community members and
members of the public can work together to address the challenges
of global language and cultural loss.
Discussion and debate: ‘Individuals
should be encouraged to reduce their language footprint’. All welcome.

Premiere!! The Linguists follows linguists David
Harrison and Gregory Anderson, as they race to document
languages on the verge of extinction. David and Greg’s
round-the-world journey takes them deep into the heart of
the cultures, knowledge, and communities at stake. David
Harrison will introduce the film and lead discussion afterwards.
Admission free. Khalili Lecture Theatre, 7pm, Wednesday
7 May.
