Topic

The goal of the workshop is to highlight and discuss theoretical and practical issues in engaging in research on endangered languages, and especially social and moral responsibilities of researchers, research goals, and advocacy for threatened languages. Among the issues to be considered will be:

  1. Who is endangered language research for?

  2. What, if any, are the social and moral responsibilities of researchers working with endangered languages?

  3. What role should advocacy for endangered languages and communities play in endangered languages research?

  4. Should researchers engage with wider community issues and if so how?
