Project Details:
Individual Graduate Studentship. Duration: 2007-2009. £29,897
Project Summary:
This discourse-based descriptive and historical grammar of the endangered Kurtoep language will provide one of the first descriptions of language in Bhutan. The proposed research will be conducted in the emerging framework which endeavours to collaborate with the speech community for the purpose of language preservation. In addition to producing a grammar of the language, this project will also produce texts with accompanying audio and video files and a dictionary. The trilingual Kurtoep-English-Dzongkha dictionary will also contain etymologies, when know, for the Kurtoep forms. This project will produce the only description to date of an East-Bodish (Tibeto-Burman) language.
