Comparative Documentation of the Myene language cluster

Dr Mark Van de Velde, Llacan (UMR 8135 of the CNRS)

Project Details:

Major Documentation Project. Duration: 2010-2013. £117,542

Project Summary:

The comparative documentation of the Myene language cluster will result in a large and diverse set of recorded and transcribed communicative events, a lexicological database and a dialectological database documenting the six language varieties of the Myene language (MYE), viz. Enenga, Adyumba, Mpongwe, Orungu, Galwa and Nkomi. Contrary to what is claimed in Ethnologue, the Enenga variety is probably dead, so that we will at most be able to work with rememberers. Adyumba, spoken in villages around Lake Ezingo near Lambaréné (0.700 S; 10.216 E), is moribund. It will be the focus of our documentation efforts.
