Documenting Pilagá language (Guaycuruan): Bilingual dictionary with grammatical and ethnographic notes

Alejandra Vidal, Universidad Nacional de Formosa

Project Details:

Field Trip Grant. Duration: 2005-2006. £10,000

Project Summary:

This project intends to complete the necessary research for a Pilagá-Spanish bilingual dictionary. Building on Vidal's PhD work, the tasks to be undertaken are recording, text-glossing and the construction of a lexical database. Each entry will contain grammatical information and examples of the words' uses. Since the edition of the contents in a CD format is planned, it will be possible to hear the pronunciation of each entry due to software that links the word to an audio file. There are no dictionaries of Pilagá, so a goal in elaborating a bilingual dictionary is to fill this void.
